My name is Wendel Stout, but many of my friends call me West. I am a New Orleans native. I just got my PhD in History from LSU. I wrote my dissertation about white men of Louisiana during the Reconstruction era. Those are the years after the Civil War. I studied a number of problems they faced getting their lives back on track in the face of great economic hardship and social disruption.
This blog is mostly about my interest in film photography and cycling. Sometimes I will dip into history, preservation, and city planning matters. I like cities that are designed with pedestrians and cyclists in mind rather than cars. Cars are okay, but we can’t let their needs dictate the forms of public life.
